It’s not often that I can walk into a cafe and order anything I want from the menu. Who am I kidding – this has NEVER happened.
Until this week, when a friend recommended I pay a visit to a little free-from joint I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of before.
Cookies and Scream is based in Camden Lock Market, and every single product is dairy, egg, wheat and gluten free. I know – this fact is fairly overwhelming. And despite the huge banner saying ‘All products vegan and gluten free’ I still did a double and triple check with the girls behind the counter. You know, just to be sure.
It’s harder to believe once you taste their food. OH MY. Their products are all baked fresh on site, and range from cookies and cupcakes to donuts (yes, donuts!) and what’s more – they all have fantastic names.
After mulling things over with my dairy-free hot chocolate for several difficult minutes, I eventually overcame my shock/awe/conflict and decided on my order - the Chiquito Cookie. This peanuty, jammy delight was even better served warm with vanilla ice-cream.
I can’t wait to go back and sample everything else they have to offer (I think this is going to be dangerous). I have a very strong feeling I am going to become a regular…

When you go back I can definitely recommend the sandwiched cookies the vanilla/chocolate icing is absolutely heavenly (and not overly sweet). It’s worth the drive from Nottingham just for these!
thanks for the tip – can’t wait to give those a try!
Thank you so much for this peek into Cookies and Scream; I’m planning a trip to London soon and this is a must visit.
